Start from explicit assumptions

Suppose a service has 1 million daily active users and each makes 20 requests per day. That is 20 million requests/day. Divide by 86,400 seconds to get roughly 230 average requests/second. Real traffic is not flat, so estimate a peak multiplier too.

Write assumptions beside the result. A rough estimate is useful when its inputs can be challenged.
